About These Sunflower Coasters
- This simple pattern is perfect for anyone to make. It takes about 40 minutes to crochet one of these coasters, making them an ideal evening or weekend project.
- The crochet flower pot features a ring of leaves on the outside. When the coasters have been arranged inside, they resemble a pot of flowers.
- Make the sunflower coaster in your favorite sunflower colors.
- This project is not only practical but it also serves as a decorative feature when not in use.
Crochet Stitches
For this pattern, you must know how to chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and slip stitch.
Front Loops (FLO) And Back Loops (BLO)
In this pattern, you will need to know the difference between the front or back loops of stitches. If you are not sure what this means, check out our blog post understanding front and back loops in crochet. It explains everything in a super easy way.
Crochet Picot Stitch
The easy crochet project uses a picot stitch as a decorative feature. If you do not know how to make this read our blog post on how to crochet picot stitch to learn more.
Yarn and Hook Information
To make these crochet sunflower coasters in a pot, you will need #2 fine (sport, baby, 5-8 ply) cotton or a cotton blend yarn with approximately 16-18 WPI (wraps per inch) for the flowers.
We used #4 medium (worsted, afghan, Aran, 10ply) acrylic yarn for the flower pot
Using a lightweight yarn for the sunflowers makes them soft, foldable, and easy to arrange in the flower pot.
For the flower pot, we experimented with different yarn weights and found that double strands of acrylic #4 worsted weight yarn provided better structure, making the flower pot sturdy rather than flimsy.
For the hook size, we used a 4mm (G/6) hook (the recommended size for the cotton yarn) for both the sunflower coasters and the flower pot.
Crocheting the flower pot with two strands of #4 yarn and a small hook produces a tight fabric that stands up and holds its shape.
However, because it is so thick, it can be tiring on the hands, so take a few breaks while crocheting the flower pot.
Presentation Ideas
The flower pot for this coaster set can hold 4 to 6 coasters.
The red sunflower coaster set displayed here includes four coasters. Three of these coasters are stacked flat inside the flower pot, while the fourth coaster is folded in half and rolled to form a flower, which is placed in the center of the arrangement.
The multicolored bouquet is made with six coasters, each folded in half and rolled to form a flower. Five of these flowers are placed around the edge of the pot, the sixth one was positioned in the center top.
