Crochet Christmas Tree Coasters

What You Will Need

Yarn

  • #3 Light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) cotton blend or 100% cotton yarn.
  • Color A (green) - about 15.3 yards (14 meters) needed per coaster.
  • Color B (yellow) - about 1 yard (90 cm) for each star.

Hook

  • 3.5 mm (E-4) or size to obtain a gauge.

  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle

Gauge

  • Use the finished size of about 5.5 inches (14cm) tall and 4 ½ inches (11cm) at its widest part for the gauge.

Finished Size

  • Coaster measures about 5.5 inches (14cm) tall and 4 ½ inches (11cm) at its widest part.

Instructions

Tree Coasters

  • Foundation, color A - MR or ch5, sl st in 1st ch to join.
  • Row 1 - (Tree base) Ch4 (counts as 1tr), 3tr into the ring, make 2 sl sts around post of last tr, sl st into ring. (Start of tree) Ch3 (counts as dc), into ring make 2dc, ch3, 3dc, (tighten MR) turn.
  • Row 2 - Ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in same sp as ch-3, 1dc in next 2-sts, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch-3 sp, 1dc in next 2-sts, (2dc) in top of ch-3, turn.
  • Row 3 - Ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in same sp as ch-3, 1dc in next 5-sts, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch-3 sp, 1dc in next 5-sts, (2dc) in top of ch-3, turn.
  • Row 4 - Ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in same sp as ch-3, 1dc in next 8-sts, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch-3 sp, 1dc in next 8-sts, (2dc) in top of ch-3, turn.
  • Row 5 - Ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in same sp as ch-3, 1 dc in next 11-sts, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch-3 sp, 1dc in next 11-sts, (2dc) in top of ch-3, turn.
  • Row 6 - Sl st into the next 6-sts, ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 9-sts, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch-3 sp, 1dc in next 10-sts, turn.
  • Row 7 - Sl st into the next 5-sts, ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 7-sts, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch-3 sp, 1dc in next 8-sts, turn.
  • Row 8 - Sl st into the next 7-sts, ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 3-sts, (2dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch-3 sp, 1dc in next 4-sts, ch1, cut yarn fasten off.

Star

  • Foundation, color B - MR, or ch3, sl st into 1st ch to form a ring.
  • Round 1 -  In the ring *(Sc, picot) rpt from * 4 more times (pull on yarn tail and close MR), sl st into 1st sc to join, cut yarn, and fasten off.
  • Finishing - Use a yarn needle to weave in the tail ends of the tree and star, then sew the star to the top of the tree.
