Crochet Christmas Tree Garland

You will enjoy this free pattern for a crochet Christmas tree garland. The trees are quick to crochet and can be connected with a simple chain stitch to create the garland.

What You Will Need

Yarn

  • #3 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) yarn with about 12 WPI (wraps per inch)
  • Color A, red (tree) - 9.3 yards (8.5 meters) / per tree
  • Color B, brown (tree trunk) - 1.6 yards (1.5 meters) / per tree
  • Color C, silver tinsel yarn (edging) - 3.7 yards (3.4 meters) / per tree
  • Color D, yellow (garland string) - 8.7 yards (8 meters) - enough for make a garland with 9 Christmas trees
  • We made 9 but you can make as many crochet Christmas trees as you need to get you desired garland length.

Finished Size

  • Each Christmas tree in this garland is approximately 4.5 inches (12 cm) long and 4 inches (10 cm) wide. The trees are crocheted onto a chain about 55 inches (1.40 meters) long.

Instructions

Tree (make 9 trees)

  • Rnd 1, col A - MR, ch3 (counts as 1dc), 3dc, ch2, *4dc, ch2, rpt from twice, sl st into top of ch-3 to join, pull yarn tail to tighten circle, turn. [12dc, 3 x ch-2 sps]
  • Rnd 2 - Sl st into ch-2 sp, ch3 (counts as 1dc), 3dc in same sp as ch-3, *(4dc, ch2, 4dc) in ch-2 sp, rpt from * twice, 4dc into same sp as ch-3, ch2, sl st into top of ch-3 to join, turn. [24dc, 3 x ch-2 sps]
  • Rnd 3 - Sl st into ch-2 sp, ch3 (counts as 1dc), 3dc in same sp as ch-3, * sk 4-sts, 4dc into next sp, sk 4-sts, (4dc, ch2, 4dc) in ch-2 sp, rpt from * twice, sk 4-sts, 4dc in next sp, sk 4-sts, 4dc into same sp as ch-3, ch2, sl st into top of ch-3 to join, ch1, cut yarn, fasten off and weave in ends. [36dc, 3 x ch-2 sps]

Tree Trunk

  • Rnd 1, col B - Slip knot the yarn to hk and sl st yarn into the 5th-dc on any side.
    Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in same sp as sl st, 1sc in next 3-sts, turn. [4sc]
  • Rnd 2 - Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in next 4-sts, turn. [4sc]
  • Rnd 3 - Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in next 4-sts, ch1, cut yarn, fasten off and weave in ends. [4sc]

Edging

  • Rnd 1, col C - Slip knot yarn to hk, sl st into the 1st sp of the tree on the left side of the trunk.
    Ch1, 1sc in the sp, then sc around the edge making 1sc in each st, 1sc in each sp, and 4sc in each ch-2 sp, when you reach the trunk finish with a ch1, cut yarn, fasten off, and weave in ends. [50sc]

Garland

  • Rnd 1, col E - Ch45, sc in top of 1st Christmas tree, *ch20, sc into top of next tree, rpt from * until all trees have been attached, ch45, cut yarn, fasten off, and weave in the ends.
