  • #3 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) acrylic yarn, with 14 WPI (wraps per inch) in the following colors:
  • Color A (flower center) - about 2.5 yards (2.3 meters)
  • Color B (petals) -about 3.8 yards (3.5 meters)
  • Color C (the border around flower) - about 6.12 yards (5.6 meters)
  • Color D (accent color) - about 3.8 yards (3.5 meters)
  • Color E (block border) - about 21 yards (19.2 meters)

Hook

  • 3.5mm (E/4)

  • Granny square size 5.5 inches (14 cm) across.

Instructions

  • Foundation, color A - Ch4, sl st into 1st ch to form a ring.
  • Round 1 - Make the 1st 3dcCL into the ring, then make 7 more 3dcCL, sl st in top of ch3 to join. Cut yarn and fasten off. [8 x 3dcCL]
  • Round 2, color B - Slip knot yarn to hk, sl st yarn into any ch-1 sp. 
    In ch1 sp, ch3, and make 3dc, ch3, and sl st, *in the next ch-1 sp (sl st, ch3, 3dc, ch3, sl st), rpt from * 6 more times, sl st into the base of the 1st sl st, ch1, cut yarn and fasten off. [8 petals]
  • Round 3, color C - Slip knot yarn to hk, sl st yarn into the 2nd dc of any petal. 
    *Ch5, sl st into the 2nd dc of the next petal, rpt from 7 more times ending with a sl st into the base of the 1st sl st. [8 x ch-5 sps]
  • Round 4 - Sl st into ch5 sp, make (1sc, 2hdc, 3dc, 2hdc, 1sc into sp), ch1, * in next ch-5 sp, (1sc, 2hdc, 3dc, 2hdc, 1sc), ch1, repeat from * 6 more times, and sl st into the 1st sc to join, ch1, cut yarn and fasten off.
  • Round 5, color D - Slip knot yarn to hk, sl st yarn into any ch-1 sp.
    Make 1st 3dcCL into the ch-1 sp, ch3, sc into 2nd dc of prev rnd, ch3. * in ch-1 sp make 3dcCL, ch3, then sc in the 2nd dc of prev rnd, ch3, rpt from * 6 more times, sl st into top of ch-2 to join, cut yarn and fasten off.
  • Round 6, color E - Slip knot yarn to hk, sl st yarn into any ch-3 space.
    Ch2 (counts as a dc) 2dc, ch2, 3dc into the ch-3 space, in next sp (3hdc) then (3sc) in next sp, (3hdc) in next sp, then *(3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next sp, (3hdc), (3sc), (3hdc) rpt from * 2 more times, sl st into ch-2 to join. 
  • Round 7 - Sl st in next 2 sts, then sl st into ch-2 sp.   
    Ch2 (counts as a dc), 2dc, ch2, 3 dc into sp, ch1, *(sk a st, dc in next st, ch 1) rpt 6 more times, then (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in ch-2 sp, ch1, rpt from * 3 more times, sl st into ch-2 to join. [52dc]
  • Round 8 - Ch2 (counts as a dc), 1dc in next 2-sts, * in ch-2 sp make (3dc, ch2, 3dc), then 1dc into each st and ch-1 sp (totaling 21 dc), rpt from * 3 more times, then (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next ch-2 sp, and dc into each st and ch-1 sp (totaling 18 dc), sl st in to top of ch-2 to join, ch-1 cut yarn and fasten off. [96 dc]
  • Finish - Use a yarn needle to weave in loose ends.
