Crochet Pumpkin Coasters

This crochet pumpkin coaster pattern is easy to make.
Made up of four simple rounds of basic crochet stitches, these are quick to make.
Use them to decorate your table in the Fall or for Halloween.

What You Will Need

Yarn

  • #3 light (light worsted, DK, 8ply) 100% cotton yarn.
  • Pumpkin, 12.6 yards (11.55 meters) or golden brown yarn
  • Stem, 1.3 yards (1.20 meters) or dark brown yarn
  • Leaf and tendrils, 4.6 yards (4.2 meters) of green yarn

Hook

  • 3.5 mm or a crochet hook

Instructions

Pumpkin Coaster (orange yarn)

  • Foundation - MR, or ch3, sl st into 1st st to make a ring.
  • Round 1 - Ch2 (not a st), 15dc in ring, sl st into 1st dc to join. [15dc]
  • Round 2 - Ch2 (not counted as a st), 2dc in same sp as ch-2, 2dc in each st, sl st into 1st dc to join. [30dc]
  • Round 3 - Ch2 (not counted as a st), 2dc in same sp as ch-2, *1dc in next st, 2dc in next st, rpt from * to the end, sl st into top of 1st dc to join. [45dc]
  • Round 4 - sc in next st, hdc in next, 1dc in each of the next 5-sts, 1tr in each of the next 5-sts, 1 dc in each of the next 6-sts, 1hdc, 1sc, sl st into each of the next 3-sts, 1sc, 1hdc in next 2-sts, 1dc in each of the next 6-sts, 1tr in each of the next 5-sts, 1dc in next 5- sts, 1hdc in next st, 1sc, sl st into next st, ch1, cut yarn and fasten off. [45 stitches]

Stem (brown yarn)

  • Round 1 - Sl knot yarn to hook and sl st yarn into the last stitch made in round 4.
    Sc in next st, ch7, 1hdc in 2nd ch from hk, 1hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st, 1hdc in next 3-sts, 1hdc on top of sc, then sl st into the base of sc, ch1, cut yarn and fasten off.

Pumpkin Leaf and Tendril (green yarn)

  • Round 1 - 10sc in MR, sl st in 1st st to join. [10sc]
  • Round 2 - Ch1, (2hdc) in same sp as ch-1, (hdc, dc) in next st, (dc, tr, ch3, sl st) in next st, sl st into next st, (sl st, ch2, dc, tr) in next st, (tr, dc, ch2, sl st) in next st, sl st in next st, (sl st, ch3, tr, dc) in next st, (dc, hdc) in next st, (2hdc, ch1, sl st) in next st, sl st in next st, ch2.
  • Cut yarn if you want only the leaf, and leave a tail long enough for attaching. If you wish to add a curly tendril follow the steps below.
  • Row 1 (tendril) - Ch14, 2sc in 2nd ch from hk, 2sc in each st down next 12-sts.
  • Cut yarn, and leave a long tail for attaching.

Finish

  • Pull the starting yarn tail tight to close the magic ring, use a darning needle to weave in the end secure it in place, and cut excess yarn.
    Weave in the ends of the pumpkin stem.
    Position the leaf and tendril at the base of the stem and at the top edge of the pumpkin.
    Secure them in place with a few stitches, ensuring the tendril does not fall onto the pumpkin where the cup will sit.
    When sewing the tendril in place, twist it a few times to the point where it meets the base of the leaf.
    By twisting the tendril, you will avoid creating a straight edge on the tendril.
