What You Will Need

Yarn

  • #3 Light ( light worsted, DK, 8py) 100% acrylic yarn or similar.
  • About 9.85 yards (9 meters) of pink yarn
  • A small amount of black yarn for the hat band
  • A small amount of yellow yarn for the hat buckle

Hook

  • 3.5mm hk or a hook size 1-2 sizes smaller than recommended on the yarn you are using.

  • This crochet witch hat is about 2 inches (5 cm) from top to bottom and the brim is about 2.5 inches (6 cm) in diameter.

  • Round 1 - Ch2, 4sc in 2nd chain from the hook. [4sc]
  • Round 2 - (sc in next st, 2sc in next), rpt 2 times. [6sc]
  • Round 3 - (sc in next st, 2sc in next), rpt 3 times. [9sc]
  • Round 4 - (sc in next 2-sts, 2sc in next), rpt 3 times. [12sc]
  • Round 5 - Sc in each st around. [12sc]
  • Round 6 - (sc in next 3-sts, 2sc in next), rpt 3 times. [15sc]
  • Round 7 - Sc in each st around. [15sc]
  • Round 8 - (sc in next 4-sts, 2sc in next), rpt 3 times. [18sc]
  • Rounds 9 - 11 - Sc in each st around. [18sc]
  • Round 12 (brim) FLO - (sc in next st, 2sc in next), rpt 9 times. [27sc]
  • Round 13 - (sc in next 2-sts, 2sc in next), rpt 9 times. [36sc]
  • Round 14 - (sc in next 3-sts, 2sc in next), rpt 9 times, sl st into top of 1st st to join. Cut yarn and fasten off. [45sc]
  • Finish - Use a yarn needle to weave in the tail end.
    Hat band
    Use black yarn, insert the hook into the brim where the FLO stitches were made, and bring up a loop. 
    Slip stitch around the brim working around the brim by slip stitching into the holes of the FLO stitches.
    When back to the first stitch, cut the yarn and draw the yarn tail to the inside of the hat, knot the starting and end tails, and trim away the excess. 
    Hat Buckle
    Cut a long piece of yellow yarn, and thread it onto a yarn needle, have the yarn meet at the ends, to create a double thread and knot the end.
    Embroider a square buckle over the top of the slip stitch hat band, and fasten off.
