Easy Single Crochet Baby Blanket

What You Will Need

Yarn

  • #3 Light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) yarn, each skein 3.5 ounces (100 grams)/295 yards (270 meters)
  • Variegated blue - 4 skeins 
  • White - 2 skeins

Hook

  • 12 mm (O-16) crochet hook or size needed to achieve gauge

Notions

  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle

Gauge

  • 10 stitches (single crochet) and 10 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) square using a 12 mm (O-16) hook.

Finished Size

  • About 40 inches x 31 inches (101 cm x 80 cm)

Pattern Notes

  • Use two strands of yarn when working on this baby blanket pattern.
  • Yarn color changes are noted in the pattern rows.
  • Cut the yarn at the end of the last row before the next color change, and leave at least a 6-inch (15cm) tail for weaving in.
  • The stitch pattern for this blanket is a repeat of row 2.

Instructions

  • Foundation, use 2 strands of blue yarn - Ch 66. 
  • Row 1 - sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in every st across, turn. [65sc]
  • Row 2 - ch1 (not counted as a st), sc in 1st st, sc in each st across, turn, [65sc] 
  • Rows 3 - 24 - Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 25 - 26, 1 strand blue and 1 strand white - Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 29 - 30, 2 strands white - Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 31 - 39 - 1 strand blue and 1 strand white - Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 40 - 49, 2 strands white - Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 50 - 51, 2 strands blue - Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 52 - 83, 2 strands white - Repeat row 2.
  • Row 54, 2 strands blue - Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 55 - 56, 2 strands white - Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 57 - 58, 2 strands blue - Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 59 - 68, 2 strands white -  Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 69 - 77, 1 strand blue and 1 strand white - Repeat row 2.
  • Rows 78 - 79, 2 strands white - Repeat row 2.

  • Rows 84 - 107, 2 strands blue - Repeat row 2, cut the yarn at the end of the last row, and fasten off.
  • Note: Weave in all ends before you start the edging.

Edging

  • Work the edging using two strands of blue yarn.
    Slip stitch yarn into any corner stitch and chain 1, make a single crochet in each space around the edges, and make 3 single crochets into each corner, then slip stitch into the 1st single crochet to join, cut yarn and fasten off.
  • Finish - Use a yarn needle to weave in the tail ends.
