What You Will Need

Yarn

  • #3 Light (DK, Light worsted, 8-ply) acrylic yarn.
  • Color A (center), orange, about 1.75 yards (1.6 meters)
  • Color B (center), light pink, about 2.6 yards (2.4 meters)
  • Color C (petals), dark pink, about 7 yards (6.4 meters)
  • Color D (flower border), green, about 3.5 yards (3.2 meters)
  • Color E (block border), white, about 13.15 yards (12 meters)

Hook

  • 3.5mm (E/4)

Gauge

  • Use the finished size of the granny square for the gauge - about 4.4 inches (11.5cm) across and 6 inches (15cm) from corner to corner.

Instructions

  • Foundation, color A - MR, or ch4, sl st into 1st ch to form a ring.
  • Round 1 - Ch2 (not a st), 16dc in ring (pull MR tight to close), sl st into top of 1st dc to join, ch1, cut yarn, fasten off. [16 dc]
  • Round 2, color B - Slip knot yarn to hk, sl st yarn into any st.
    Ch2 (counted as 1dc), 2dc same sp as ch-2, ch2, * sk 1-st, (3dc, ch2) in next st, rpt from * 6 more times, sl st in top of ch-2 to join, ch1, cut yarn and fasten off. [8 petals]
  • Round 3, color C - Slip knot yarn to hk, sl st yarn into any ch-2 sp.
    Ch1 (not a st), in ch-2 sp make (1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, 2tr, 1dc, 1hdc, 1sc, ch1) then in next ch-2 sp * (1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, 2tr, 1dc, 1hdc, 1sc, ch1) rpt, from * 6 more times, sl st into top of 1st 1sc to join, cut yarn and fasten off.
  • Round 4, color D - Slip knot yarn to hk, sl st yarn into any ch-1 sp.
    Ch6 (counts as 1tr, and ch2), 1tr in same sp as ch-6, ch5, 1tr in next ch-1 sp, ch5, *(1tr, ch2, 1 tr) in next ch-1 sp, ch5, 1tr in next ch-1 sp, ch5, rpt from * 2 more times, sl st into ch-4 to join, ch1 cut yarn, fasten off. 
  • Round 5, color E - Slip knot yarn to hk, sl st yarn into any ch-2 sp.

  • Round 6 - Sl st into each of the next 2 sts, sl st into ch-2 sp.

  • Finish - Use a yarn needle to weave in the loose ends.
