What You Will Need

Yarn

  • DK (light worsted yarn / #3 light yarn / 8ply) acrylic yarn, skein weight 3.5 ounces/100grams (251 yards/230 meters)
  • Color A yellow (or color of choice) - 2 skeins
  • Color B cream (or color of choice) - 4 skeins
  • Color C red (or color of choice) - 9 skeins

Hook

  • 9 mm or size to obtain gauge for the squares
  • 5 mm hook for joining

Notions

  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

  • The finished daisy granny square is 9x9 inches (23x23cm) from corner to corner. Use any hook size to obtain the correct gauge.

Finished Size

  • The finished size of the blanket is 55 x 39 inches (1.4 x 1 meter).

  • ch - chain
  • hdc - half double crochet

Special Stitches

  • dc3 cluster YO, insert hook in st, YO, pull up loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, (YO, insert hook in same st, YO, pull up loop, YO, pull through 2 loops) twice, YO, pull through all 4 loops on hook, ch1.

Pattern Notes

  • Weave in the tail ends as you go because it will make working the rounds easier.

Instructions

Make a total of 48 squares.

  • Foundation ring - Color A (9 mm hook), ch4, join with a sl st.
  • Round 1 - Color A. Ch2 (does not count as a st), 16 hdc into ring. Join with sl st into top of first hdc, ch1, cut yarn, and fasten off. = 16 hdc
  • Round 2 - Color B. Sl st into top of any hdc of previous round. ch3, dc3 cluster in same sp as ch3, ch3, sl st into same st, sl st into next st. 
    *(ch3, dc3 cluster, in next st, ch3, sl st in same st as dc3 cluster), sl st into next st, repeat from * 6 more times, sl st into base of first ch3, ch1, cut yarn, fasten off. = 8 petals
  • Round 3 - Color C. Sl st into top of any dc3 cluster. Ch1 (counts as sc), ch5, sc in top of next dc3 cluster, *ch5, sc into top of nextdc3 cluster, repeat from * 5 more times, ch5, sl st into first ch1. = 8 x ch5 sps, 8 x sc
  • Round 4 - Sl st into ch5 sp. Ch3 (counts as dc), 2dc, ch2, 3dc in same ch5 sp. Ch3, sc into next ch5 sp, ch3, *(3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next ch5 sp, ch3, sc in next ch5 sp, ch3, repeat from * 2 more times, sl st in top of first ch3. = 18 dc, 4 sc, 8 x ch3 sps, and 4 x ch2 sps
  • Round 5 - Sl st into next 2 sts, sl st in ch2 sp. Ch3 (counts as a dc), 3 dc, ch2, 3 dc in same ch2 sp. 3 hdc in each of the next 2 ch3 sps. *(3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next ch2 sp, then 3 hdc in the next 2 ch3 sps, repeat from * 2 more times, sl st into top of first ch3, cut yarn and fasten off. = 24 dc, 24 hdc, 4 x ch2 sps
  • Round 6 - Ch 1, sc in each st and make (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in each ch2 corner space, sl st in ch1, then ch1, cut yarn and fasten off. Weave in all of the loose ends.

Joining Squares

  • 1. Use cream-colored yarn and a 5mm crochet hook.
    2. Place two squares together with right sides facing out.
    3. Start with a slip knot on your hook.
    4. Insert the hook into the corner of the squares from front to back and make a slip stitch.
    5. Insert the hook back into the same corner from back to front and make a single crochet and chain 1.
    6. Work a single crochet stitch in the back loop only, followed by a chain 1, along each side of the squares.
    7. When you reach a corner space, work a single crochet stitch into the corner stitch.
    8. Join more squares by working single crochets and chain 1.
    9. Finish the column seam with a single crochet in the corner space, chain 1, and cut the yarn, leaving a tail.
    10. Repeat the steps to join the remaining columns.
    11.Once all the columns are joined, repeat the process to join the rows, but don't single crochet into the joins instead chain 3 and single crochet in the next back of loop.
    12. Weave in the loose ends before working the border.

Border

  • Round 1 - Color C (9mm hook and two strands). Ch1, sc in same space as ch1, then sc in each st around and (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in each ch2 corner space, sl st into ch1.
  • Round 2 - Ch2, hdc in same space as ch2, hdc in each st around and (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc) in each ch2 corner space, sl st into ch1, ch1, cut yarn and fasten off. Weave in the tail ends.
  • Decorative slip stitch - Using a 9mm hook and 2 strands of cream yarn, slip stitch into the spaces at the base of the single crochet stitches made in round one. Fasten off and weave in the tail ends.
