Loopy Flower Crochet Granny Square Pattern

What You Will Need

Yarn

  • We used a #3 Light (light worsted, DK, 8ply) yarn weight, with 12 WPI (wraps per inch) in the following colors:
  • Color A - pink
  • Color B- purple
  • Color C- blue

Hook

  • 5mm (H/5)
  • Note - You can use another yarn weight and use the hook size recommended on the yarn label.

Finished Size

  • This medium-sized granny square measures about 4 inches (10 cm) in width, unblocked, using the yarn weight and hook size mentioned above.

Pattern Notes

  • This pattern starts with a chain 4 foundation ring, but you could also start it with a magic circle.

Instructions

  • Foundation, col A - Ch4, sl st into 1st st to join. 
  • Rnd 1 - Ch1 (not counted as a st), * 1sc, ch8, rpt from * 6 more times, 1sc, ch4, 1tr into ring. [8 loops and 8sc in this rnd.]
  • Rnd 2 - Ch5, * sl st into next lp, ch5, rpt from * 6 more times, sl st into 1st sl st to join, cut yarn and fasten off. [8 x ch-5 sps, 8 x sl st]
  • Rnd 3, col B - Sl st col B into any ch-5 sp, 5sc into the ch-5 sp, * 5sc in next ch-5 sp, rpt from 6 more times, sl st into 1st sc to join, cut yarn, fasten off and weave in end. [40sc]
  • Rnd 4 - Sl st color C into the 3rd sc of any 5sc group in any ch-5 sp of prev rnd. 
    Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in same sp as ch-1, * ch3, sk 4-sts, (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in next st, ch3, sk 4-sts, 1sc in next st, rpt from * 2 more times, ch3, sk 4-sts, (2sc, ch2, 2sc) in next st, ch3, sl st into 1st sc to join. [20sc, 8 x ch-3 sps, 4 x ch-2 sps]
  • Rnd 5 - Sl st into ch-3 sp, ch2 (counts as dc), 2dc in same sp as ch2, * ch1, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in ch-2 sp, ch1, 3dc in next ch-3 sp, rpt from * 2 more times, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in ch-2 spc, ch1, 3dc in next ch-2 sp, ch1, sl st into ch-2 to join, cut yarn and fasten off.   • Finishing - Use a yarn needle to weave in the loose ends and if necessary block the squares to ensure that they are of an even size and shape to make joining easier.
