What You Will Need

Yarn and Hook

  • We used #4 yarn and 5mm hook
  • However, you can use other yarn weights and the recommended hook size to create this pattern.

Stitches and Abbreviations Used (US Terms)

  • ch - chain stitch
  • sc - single crochet
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • BLsc - back loop single crochet
  • puff - puff stitch - see special stitches below
  • hk - hook
  • sk - skip
  • rpt - repeat
  • YO - yarn over hook

Special Stitches

  • Puff -  YO, insert hk into st, YO, pull yarn through st (3 loops on hk). YO, insert hk in the same stitch, YO, pull up loop (5 loops on hk). YO, insert hk in same st, YO, pull up loop (7 loops on hk). YO, insert hk in same st, YO, pull up loop (9 loops on hk). YO and pull through 7 loops on hk (2 loops on hk), YO and pull through 2 loops.

Instructions

  • Foundation - Chain an odd number of stitches.
  • Row 1 - 1sc in 2nd ch from hk, 1sc in each st to end, turn. [The stitch count for this row and all other rows will be 1 stitch less than your foundation chain]
  • Rows 2-3 - 1sc in the 1st st, BLsc in each st until 1-st remains, 1sc in last st, turn.
  • Row 4 - ch2, *sk 1-st, 1hdc in next st, 1hdc in sk st, rpt from * until 1 stitch remains, 1hdc in last st, turn.
  • Row 5 - 1sc in each stitch, turn.
  • Row 6 - 1sc, * sk 1-st, 1sc in next, puff in sk st, rpt from * until 1 stitch remains, 1sc in last st, turn.
  • Row 7 - 1sc in each stitch, turn.
  • Row 8 - ch2, *sk 1-st, 1hdc in next st, 1hdc in sk st, rpt from * until 1 stitch remains, 1hdc in last st, turn.
  • Pattern Repeat - Repeat rows 1-8 until you reach your desired length, then end the pattern with rows 1-3 to make both ends match.
