Crochet Ghost Amigurumi Pattern

What You Will Need

Yarn

  • #3 Light ( light worsted, DK, 8py) 100% acrylic yarn or similar.
  • Ghost
  • About 18.6 yards (17 meters) of white yarn.
  • Witch Hat 
  • About 9.85 yards (9 meters) of red yarn
  • A small amount of black yarn for the hat band
  • A small amount of yellow yarn for the hat buckle

Hook

  • 3.5mm hk or a hook size 1-2 sizes smaller than recommended on the yarn you are using.

Notions

  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle
  • Safety eyes, or yarn for embroidered eyes.
  • Fiberfill for stuffing

  • Not important for this pattern

Finished Size

  • About 1.6 inches (4 cm) tall (without the witch hat)

Stitches and Abbreviations Used (US Terms)

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • hk - hook
  • rpt - repeat
  • sc2tog - single crochet 2 together, see special stitches below.

Special Stitches

  • sc2tog - Insert hk in st, YO pull up loop, (2 loops on hk), insert hk in next st, YO and pull up loop (3 loops on hk), YO pull through 3 loops on hk.

Pattern Notes

  • This amigurumi pumpkin is crocheted in a spiral, so do not join the rounds.
  • Use a stitch marker to make the first stitch of each round as you go.

Instructions

Amigurumi Ghost

  • Round 1, white yarn - Ch2, make 6sc in 1st ch. [6sc]
  • Round 2 - 2sc in the next 6-sts. [12sc]
  • Round 3 - (sc in next st, 2sc in next) rpt 6 times. [18sc]
  • Round 4 - (sc in next 2-sts, 2sc in next) rpt 6 times. [24sc]
  • Pull the yarn tail tight to close the first round made, and fasten off the tail.
    There is no need to cut the yarn tail, tuck it inside the cavity when adding the stuffing.
  • Rounds 5-8 - Sc in each st. [24sc] 
  • Round 9 (arms) - sc in next 6-sts, in next st (sc, ch5, sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in next 4-sts), sc in next 10-sts, in next st (sc, ch5, sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in next 4-sts), sc in next 6-sts. [24sc and 2 arms made.]
  • Insert safety eyes evenly between the arms and in between rounds 7 and 8, placing them five stitches apart.
  • Rounds 10 - 12 - Sc in each st. [24sc]
  • Note: Rounds 13 -14 will be worked into the top of the same stitches in round 12. Round 13 is worked into the front loops only (FLO) of round 12, and round 14 is worked in the back loops only (BLO) of round 12.
  • Round 13 (ruffle), FLO of round 12 - *(dc, tr, dc,) into st, sl st in next st*, rpt from * to * 12 times. [12 x (dc, tr, dc) and 12 x sl sts]
  • Round 14 (start of base), BLO of round 12 - sc into each st around. [24sc]
  • Round 15 - (sc in next st, sc2tog) rpt 8 times. [16sc]
  • Add some stuffing but don't overfill because you may find that it gets in the way of crocheting the last two rounds.
  • Round 16 - (sc2tog) rpt 8 times. [8sc]
    Cut yarn, (leave a long tail for sewing), and fill the ghost with more stuffing before closing the hole.

Amigurumi Witch Hat

  • Round 1 - Ch2, 4sc in 2nd chain from the hook. [4sc]
  • Round 2 - (sc in next st, 2sc in next), rpt 2 times. [6sc]
  • Round 3 - (sc in next st, 2sc in next), rpt 3 times. [9sc]
  • Round 4 - (sc in next 2-sts, 2sc in next), rpt 3 times. [12sc]
  • Round 5 - Sc in each st around. [12sc]
  • Round 6 - (sc in next 3-sts, 2sc in next), rpt 3 times. [15sc]
  • Round 7 - Sc in each st around. [15sc]
  • Round 8 - (sc in next 4-sts, 2sc in next), rpt 3 times. [18sc]
  • Rounds 9 - 11 - Sc in each st around. [18sc]
  • Round 12 (brim) FLO - (sc in next st, 2sc in next), rpt 9 times. [27sc]
  • Round 13 - (sc in next 2-sts, 2sc in next), rpt 9 times, sl st into top of 1st st to join. Cut yarn and fasten off. [36sc]
  • Round 14 - (sc in next 3-sts, 2sc in next), rpt 9 times, sl st into top of 1st st to join. Cut yarn and fasten off. [45sc]
  • Finishing Hat
    Use black yarn, insert the hook into the brim where the FLO stitches were made, and bring up a loop. 
    Slip stitch around the brim working around the brim by slip stitching into the holes of the FLO stitches.
    When back to the first stitch, cut the yarn and draw the yarn tail to the inside of the hat, knot the starting and end tails, and trim away the excess. 
    Hat Buckle
    Cut a long piece of yellow yarn, and thread it onto a yarn needle, have the the yarn meet at the ends, to create a double thread and knot the end.
    Embroider a square buckle over the top of the slip stitch hat band, and fasten off.

Finish

  • Position witch hat onto ghost and stitch in place.
