What You Will Need

Yarn

  • DK (light worsted, 8ply) cotton blend or 100% cotton yarn.
  • You will need about 16 yards (14.5 meters) per heart coaster in any color. 

Hook

  • 3.75 (E/5) mm crochet hook or size to obtain a gauge.

Gauge

  • The crochet coasters are about 5 inches x 4 inches (14cm long by 12cm wide) when made in #3 Light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) yarn and 3.75 (E/5) mm hook.

Finished Size

  • These crochet heart coasters are bout 5 inches x 4 inches (14cm long by 12cm wide).

Instructions

  • Foundation - Ch 6, sl st in the first ch.
  • Row 1 - Ch4 (counts as 1tr), 4tr in ring, turn.
  • Row 2 - Ch4, 3tr in the 1st sp between the 1st 2-sts of the prev row, 4tr in sp between the last 2-sts sts of prev row, turn.
  • Row 3 - Ch4, 3tr in 1st sp between the tr of the prev row, 3tr in next sp, 4tr in sp between the last 2-sts of prev row, turn.
  • Row 4 - Ch4, 3tr in the 1st sp between the 1st 2-sts of prev row, 3tr in each of the next 2 sps, 4tr in sp between the last 2-sts of the prev row, turn.
  • Row 5 -  Ch4, 3tr in the 1st sp between the 1st 2-sts of prev row, 3tr in each next of the next 3sps, 4tr in sp between the last 2-sts of the prev row, turn.
  • Row 6 - Ch4, sk 3-sts, 3tr in each of the next 4 sps, 1tr in sp between the last 2 sts of prev row, turn.
  • Row 7 - Ch 4, sk 3 sts and (2tr, 1dc) in next sp, ch4, sl st in next sp, ch4, (1dc, 2tr) in next sp, ch4, sl st into top of last tr of prev row, don't turn. 
  • Border - Ch1, 4sc in ch-4 sps, 4sc around tr posts until you get to the foundation ring, make 6sc in foundation ring, then make 4sc in ch-4 sps, 4sc around tr posts until you get to the top of the heart and the tr-sts, 1sc in each tr-st, then 3sc down ch4, sl st into sl st of prev row, 3sc up ch-4, 1sc in the next 3tr-sts, 4sc in next ch-4 sp, sl st into 1st sc, ch1, cut yarn and fasten off.
  • Finish - Use a yarn needle to weave in the ends.
