    Crochet Stitches

    You will need to know a few basic crochet stitches like chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, treble and how to slip stitch to make this granny heart coaster.

    1. Make a slip knot.
    2. Yarn over hook (YO)
    3. Draw a loop of yarn back up through the loop on the crochet hook. One chain stitch has been made.

    1. Yarn over hook (YO), insert hook from the front to the back of a stitch.
    2. Yarn over hook (YO) and pull back up through the stitch. You should have two loops on the hook.

    4. This completes a single crochet stitch.

    Double Crochet Stitch (dc)

    1. Yarn over hook (YO), insert the hook from the front to the back of a stitch.
    2. Yarn over hook (YO) again and pull back up through the stitch. You will have three loops on the hook.
    3. Yarn over hook (YO) pull the yarn back through two loops on the hook. You will now have two loops on the hook.
    4. Yarn over hook (YO) pull the yarn back through the two loops on the hook.
    5. This completes a double crochet stitch.

    Treble Crochet (tr)

    1. Wrap the yarn over the hook (YO) twice, and insert the hook from the front to the back of a stitch.
    2. Yarn over hook (YO) again and pull back up through the stitch. You will have four loops on the hook.
    3. Yarn over hook (YO) pull the yarn back through two loops on the hook. You will now have three loops on the hook.
    4. Yarn over hook (YO) pull the yarn back through two loops on the hook. You will now have two loops on the hook.

    6. This completes a treble crochet stitch.

    Slip Stitch (sl st)

    1. Insert the hook from the from to the back of a stitch.
    2. Yarn over hook (YO) pull the yarn back through both the stitch and the loop on the hook.

    Yarn

    • DK (light worsted, 8ply) cotton blend or 100% cotton yarn.
    • You will need about 16 yards (14.5 meters) per heart coaster in any color. 

    Hook

    • 3.75 (E/5) mm or a crochet hook size to obtain the correct gauge.

    Row Seven

    Crochet granny heart row 7.

    Row 7 - Chain 4, skip 3 stitches and make 2 treble stitches and 1 double crochet in the next space, chain 4, slip stitch in the next space, chain 4, then make 1 double crochet and 2 trebles stitches in the next space then chain 4 and slip stitch into the top of last treble of the previous row, don't turn.

    Abbreviated version

    Row 7 - Ch 4, sk 3 sts and (2tr, 1dc) in next sp, ch4, sl st in next sp, ch4, (1dc, 2tr) in next sp, ch4, sl st into top of last tr of prev row, don't turn. 

    Border

    Border - Chain 1, work 4 single crochets in each chain 4 space, and 4 single crochets around each treble stitch post, until you get to the foundation ring.

    In the foundation, ring make 6 single crochet, then continue to work single crochets in the chain spaces and around the treble posts, until you get to the top

    Place 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 trebles, then work 3 single crochets down the chain 4. 

    Slip stitch into the top of the slip stitch of the previous row, then make 3 single crochets in the next chain 4 space.

    Then make a single crochet in each of the three treble stitches, then make 4 single crochets in the next space, slip stitch into the top of the first single crochet to join, chain 1, cut yarn, and fasten off.

    Abbreviated version

    Border - Ch1, 4sc in ch-4 sps, 4sc around tr posts until you get to the foundation ring, make 6sc in foundation ring, then make 4sc in ch-4 sps, 4sc around tr posts until you get to the top of the heart and the tr-sts, 1sc in each tr-st, then 3sc down ch4, sl st into sl st of prev row, 3sc up ch-4, 1sc in the next 3tr-sts, 4sc in next ch-4 sp, sl st into 1st sc, ch1, cut yarn and fasten off.
