What You Will Need

Yarn

  • 3-ply 100% crochet cotton yarn
  • Front heart - about yards (12.3 meters) of orange yarn.
  • Back heart - about yards (8.7 meters) of orange yarn

Heart

  • Foundation - MR, or ch4, sl st into 1st st to join and form a circle.
  • Round 1 - Ch2 (counted as a dc), work 2dc, ch2, * 3dc, ch2, rpt from * 2 more times, sl st into ch-2 to join. [12dc]
  • Round 2 - Sl st into the next 2-sts, sl st into ch-2 sp, ch2 (counts as dc), 1dc, ch2, 2dc into the ch-2 sp, 1dc in each of the next 3-sts, then * (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in ch-2 sp, 1dc in each of the next 3-sts, rpt from * 2 more times, sl st into top of ch-2 to join. [28dc]
  • Round 3 - Sl st into next st, sl st into ch-2 sp, ch1, sk 3-sts and into the 4th-st work (1tr, ch1, 1t, ch1, 1tr, ch1, 1tr, ch1, 1tr, 1ch, 1tr, ch1) then sl st into the ch-2 sp, ch1, sk 3-sts and into the 4th-st make (1tr, ch1, 1t, ch1, 1tr, ch1, 1tr, ch1, 1tr, 1ch, 1tr, ch1) and sl st in ch-2 sp.

Borders

  • Border Round 2 - Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc same space as ch-1, 1sc in next st, picot, * 1sc in each of the next 2-sts, picot, rpt from 14 more times, 1sc in next 3-sts, sl st into center "V", 1sc in next 3-sts, picot, *1sc in next 2-sts, picot, rpt from *6 more times, sl st into 1st sc, ch1, cut yarn, fasten off, weave in ends.

Finish

  • Join the front and back hearts.
    Thread tail yarn onto a darning needle, and weave the thread back two stitches from the slip stitch join. This will be about 13 double crochet stitches from the center double crochet at the bottom point of the heart.
    With the wrong sides facing, center the back heart onto the top heart.
    Then sew both pieces together by stitching 13 stitches down to the center stitch at the bottom heart tip and then up 13 stitches on the other side, leaving the top edge open to create a pocket.
