What You Will Need

Yarn

  • 3-ply 100% crochet cotton yarn
  • Color A (light stripe), yellow - about 14.2 yards (13 meters) of yarn
  • Color B (dark stripe), blue - about 14.2 yards (13 meters) of yarn
  • Color C (pencil head), white - about 3.8 yards (3.5 meters) of yarn
  • Color D (pencil tip), black - about 0.54 yards (½ meters) of yarn
  • Color E (eraser casing), red - about 1.09 yards (1 meter) of yarn
  • Color F (eraser), pink - about 2.18 yards (2 meters) of yarn

Hook

  • 2.5mm or a crochet hook size.

  • This pencil bookmark is about 9 ½ inches (24 cm) long and 1 ½ inches (4cm) wide.

Instructions

Pencil

  • Foundation, color B - Ch41.
  • Row 1, color A - Pull color A up through the loop of color B. 
    In color A, sc in 2nd ch from hk, then sc in each st, turn. [40sc]
  • Row 2 - Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in each st, turn. [40 sc]
  • Row 3, color B - Drop color A, and pick up color B.
    Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in each st, turn. [40sc]
  • Row 4 - Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in each st, turn. [40sc]
  • Row 5 - Drop color B and pick up color A. 
    Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in each st, and turn. [40sc]
  • Row 6 - Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in each st, and turn. [40sc]
  • Row 7 - Same as row 3.
  • Row 8 - Same as row 4.
  • Row 9 - Same as row 5.
  • Row 10 - Same as row 6.
  • Row 11 - Drop color A, and pick up color B.
    Bring dark yarn up through the light yarn loop, then sl st in every st to the end, ch1, cut yarn, fasten off, and also cut the light colored yarn. [40 sl sts]
  • Use a yarn needle to weave in all the tail ends.

Pencil Head

  • Row 1, color C - Slip knot yarn to hk and sl st into the 1st st on one of the short edges.
    Ch1 (not counted as a st) evenly work 9sc across the edge, turn. [9sc]
  • Row 2 - 1sc in each st, turn. [9sc]
  • Row 3 - Sk 1-st, 1sc in next, 1sc in each st to end, turn. [8sc]
  • Row 4 -  Sk 1-st, 1sc in next, 1sc in each st to end, turn. [7sc]  
  • Row 5 -  Sk 1-st, 1sc in next, 1sc in each st to end, turn. [6 sc]  
  • Row 6 - Sk 1-st, 1sc in next, 1sc in each st to end, turn. [5sc]  
  • Row 7 -  Sk 1-st, 1sc in next, 1sc in each st to end, ch1, cut yarn, and fasten off. [4sc]  
  • Row 8, color D -  Slip knot yarn to hk, sl st yarn into 1st st, 1sc in same sp as sl st, 1sc in each st to end, turn. [4sc]
  • Row 9 - Sk 1-st, 1sc in each st to end, turn. [3sc]  
  • Row 10 - Sk 1-st, 1sc in each st to end, turn. [2sc]  
  • Row 11 - Sk 1-st, 1sc in each st to end, ch1, cut yarn, fasten off. [1sc] 

Eraser

  • Row 1, color E - Slip knot yarn to hook and sl st into the 1st st onto the edge of the second side.
    Ch1 (not counted as a st), evenly work 10sc across the edge, and turn. [10sc]
  • Row 2 - Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in each st to the end, cut yarn, and fasten off, turn [10sc]
  • Rows 3 - 5, Color F - Slip knot yarn to hk and sl st into the 1st st.
    Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in each st across turn [10sc]
  • Row - 6 Ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in each st to the end, ch1, cut yarn, and fasten off, turn [10sc]
  • Finish - Use a yarn needle to weave in the tail ends. Block or give it a light press with a warm iron on the wrong side to help it sit flat.
