Crochet Star Garland

This simple star crochet garland pattern is a fantastic decoration to add color and fun to your home.
These small stars are simple and fast to make, and you can use leftover bits of yarn because each star only needs a little bit.
It makes a great gift and you can use it to decorate your walls, windows, Christmas tree, fireplace, or mantel in many creative ways!

What You Will Need

Yarn

  • Stars - Allow about 6.56 yards (6 meters) of yarn per star. - Any color
  • Garland string to hold 8 stars, spaced 15 chain stitches apart is about 0.55-yard (0.5 meters) in length - you will need about 2.6 yards (2.4 meters) of yarn (this does not include the outside ends for tying). - Any color

Hook

  • 3mm crochet hook or a size suited to the yarn you are using.

  • Scissors

Finished Size

  • The crochet stars made 3-ply 100% crochet cotton yarn with a 3mm hook measures about 2.36 inches (6cm).

Pattern Notes

  • Make the garland to any size by crocheting multiple stars.
  • The garland has the stars spaced 15 chains apart, for more space between stars increases the number of chain stitches.

  • Notes - Make your desired number of crochet stars to suit the length of the garland you wish to make. Make them in different colors, or you can make them in one.

Crochet Star

  • Foundation - Ch3, sl st into 1st st to form a ring.
  • Round 1 - Ch2 (counts as a dc), 2dc into ring, ch2, * 3dc, ch2, rpt from * 3 more times, sl st into top of ch-2 to join. [15dc]
  • Round 2 - Sl st into next 2-sts, sl st into ch-2 sp, ch2 (counts as dc), 2dc, ch3, 3dc into ch-2 sp, * (3dc, ch3, 3dc), in ch-2 sp, rpt from * 3 more times, sl st into top of ch-2 to join. [30dc]
  • Round 3 - Ch1 (counts as sc), sc in next 2-sts, 3sc in ch-3 sp, sc in next 3-sts, sl st into sp, sc in next 3-sts, 3sc in ch-3 sp, * sc in next 3-sts, sl st into sp, sc in next 3-sts, 3sc in ch-3 sp, rpt from * 2 more times, sc in next 3-sts, sl st into sp, then sl st into 1st st to join, ch1, cut yarn, fasten off.
  • Finish - Use a yarn needle to weave in the tail ends of each star.

String The Garland

  • To make the garland, start with chain 45 (or your desired length) to form the start of the garland string.
    Then single crochet into a point of one star to join it to the chain, then chain 15.  
    Next, single crochet into the point of the next star and chain 15.
    Repeat the process of making 15 chains and single crocheting into the stars until you have reached your desired length, ending with a chain of 45 (or your desired number) for the garland end.
