About This Star Garland Pattern
- This star garland crochet pattern is easy to make and perfect for a beginner.
- The pattern is based on our granny stitch crochet star pattern which is a simple three-round pattern.
- This pattern is quick to make and requires very little yarn, making it great for stash-busting.
- Make this star garland in any length you like and use it to decorate your Christmas tree, walls, windows, mantle or anywhere you would like to show some holiday joy.
- This is a free crochet pattern. You can find a printable pattern card at the end of this post.
What Yarn To Use
You can use just about any yarn type and yarn weight to make stars.
Fine yarn weights like #1 super fine, #2 fine, and #3 light are ideal for this garland pattern because the stars will be small and dainty.
If you use thicker yarns the stars will be chunkier and heavier looking.
I used 3-ply, 100% crochet cotton to make this garland, which is similar to #0 lace (light fingering, 10-count thread) yarn.
You could make stars in multiple colors like you see here on this page or go for a monotone look and use one color only.
If you are after a more festive look, I think that this garland would look fantastic worked in metallic yarn.
Crochet Stitches
You will need to know a few basic crochet stitches to make this pattern, like chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet and slip stitch.
