Easy Candy Corn Crochet Halloween Treat Bag

This small and sweet little crochet candy corn treat bag is easy to make and perfect for trick or treating!

What You Will Need

Yarn

  • #3 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) 100% Acrylic yarn, or other yarn.

Candy corn treat bag

  • Yellow yarn, about 49.2 yards (45 meters)
  • Orange yarn, about 48.1 yards (44 meters)
  • White yarn, about 48.1 yards (44 meters)

Bat Applique

  • Purple yarn, about 9.3 yards (8.5 meters)

Hook

  • 5mm crochet hook (for the bag) or size appropriate for the yarn you use.
  • 3.5mm crochet hook for the bat applique

Notions

  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle
  • 2 googly eyes, or black and white felt circles or embroidery thread for the eyes.
  • Glue

Gauge

  • The gauge is not that important, but if you would like a bag size similar size to the one shown here, the gauge should be about:
  • 16 single crochets by 19 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) using a 5 mm hook and #3 DK yarn.

Finished Size

  • The bag is about 7.5 inches (19cm) wide by 7.5 inches (19cm) high and 9.4 inches (24cm) tall with the handles.

Special Stitches

  • Picot - ch3, insert hk into 3rd ch from hk, YO pull the yarn back through both the stitch and the loop on the hk.

Pattern Notes

  • If using a heavier yarn weight than stated in the pattern, allow for extra yarn and use a larger hook size.
  • The handles of this bag are worked in two rounds, if you would like thicker handles, crochet one or two more rounds before fastening off.

Instructions

Bag

  • Foundation, yellow - Ch31
  • Round 1 - Sc in 2nd ch from hk and sc in each ch across, make 2sc in the last st, sc in each ch on the other side, ending with 2sc in the last st, sl st into 1st sc to join. [62]
  • Round 2 - Ch1 (not counted as a st), sc in the same st as ch-1, then sc in each st around, sl st into 1st st to join. [62sc]
  • Please note: the stitches in rounds 3 to 34 are the same as row 2, but the colors change as listed below.
  • Rounds 3 - 12 = yellow
  • Rounds 13 - 24 (12 rounds) = orange
  • Rounds 25 - 34 (10 rounds)= white. After completing round 34, chain 1, cut yarn, and fasten off.

Handles - Lay the bag flat to determine the side seams.

  • Round 35, white - Slip knot yarn to hk and sl st into a st on a side seam.
    Ch1 (not counted as a st) 1sc in the same st as ch-1, then sc into the next 7-sts, ch25, sk 15-sts, and sc into each of the next 16-sts, ch25, sk 15-sts, sc into each of the next 8-sts, sl st into the 1st sc to join. [66 stitches]
  • Round 36 - Ch1 (not counted as a st) sc in the same st as ch-1, sc in each st around (including the handles), sl st into the 1st sc to join, ch1, cut yarn, and fasten off. [66sc]

Bat Applique

  • Body - Ch3 (not a stitch), 16tr in ring, tighten ring, sl st into 1st tr to join. [16tr]
  • Head - Ch2 (counts as dc), make (1dc, picot, 3dc, picot, 2dc) in the same space as ch-2, then sl st into the same sp. [7dc, and 2 picots]
  • sts, sl st into next st on the body, ch1, turn.
    Sc in each of the next 6-sts, turn, picot (this forms the tip of the wing), sc in each of the next 6-sts, sl st into next st on the body, ch1, turn.
    Sc in each of the next 4-sts, turn, picot, sc in each of the next 4-sts, sl st into the next st on the body, ch1, turn.
    Sc in next 2-sts, turn picot, sc in next 2-sts, sl st into each of the next 5-sts on the body, picot (for claw 1), sl st in next 2-sts, picot (for claw 2), sl st in next 7-sts on the body (the last sl st should be in the same sp as the ch-3 of the head), and turn.
  • Wing 2 - ch10, sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in each of the next 9-ch sts, sl st into next st on the body, ch1, turn.
    Sc in each of the next 6-sts, turn, picot, sc in each of the next 6-sts, sl st into next st on body, ch1, turn.
    Sc in each of the next 4-sts, turn, picot, sc in each of the next 4-sts, sl st into the next st on the body, ch1, turn
