About This Candy Corn Trick Or Treat Bag
- It is an easy pattern, perfect for beginners because it uses only two stitches, chain stitch and single crochet.
- This small tote bag pattern is crocheted in the round, and the handles are seamlessly worked into the bag.
- The bag can be left undecorated to show off the iconic white, orange, and yellow stripes that scream fall.
- Or you can decorate it for Halloween with simple crochet appliques or other embellishments.

What Kind Of Yarn To Use
You can use any yarn and weight to make this crochet candy corn treat bag.
For the bag you see here, we used #3 light (light worsted, DK, 8py) 100% acrylic yarn.
This yarn weight gave us a smaller bag perfect for a toddler or preschooler.
You can increase the size of this bag by increasing the number of stitches in the foundation chain and evenly increasing the number of rounds in each color section.
Or, you could use a heavier yarn weight like #4 worsted, such as Red Heart Super saver, which will work into a slightly larger bag.
For an even larger bag, you could use chunky yarn, like Bernat softee chunky, or crochet with two strands of #3 light or #4 worsted weight yarns.
If you use a heavier yarn weight, you will require more yarn and will need to use a larger crochet hook.
Decoration Ideas
We added a simple crochet bat applique to this bag, and have included the instructions in the printable pattern below.
Here are some other ideas that you can use to decorate this candy corn crochet bag:
- Spooky Faces - Add spooky faces to your candy corn bag using black buttons or crocheted facial features. These can include ghostly eyes, wicked grins, or even classic Jack-o'-lantern faces.
- Witch Hat - Crochet miniature witch hat applique and attach it to the bag.
- Spider Web - Embroider or crochet a spider web design on the candy corn bag using white or black yarn. Add a crochet spider or purchase a small plastic spider to attach to the web.
- Cats - Sew on black cat appliques faces or bodies into the candy corn bag for a spooky touch.
- Glow-in-the-Dark Yarn - Use glow-in-the-dark yarn to crochet some or all of the bag. When the lights go out, your candy corn bag will emit an eerie glow.
- Broomstick Handle - Attach a crochet broomstick handle to the top of the bag to make it look like a witch's broom filled with candy.
- Ghosts - Create crocheted ghosts, appliques, or amigurumi and attach them to the bag. You can make them in different sizes and shapes to add variety.
- Frankenstein's Monster - Crochet a small Frankenstein monster face and attach it to the bag. You can also add some bolts on the sides for an authentic look.
- Haunted House - Create a crochet applique of a haunted house and attach it to the front of the bag. Add spooky details like windows, bats, and a crescent moon.
- Cauldron and Bubbles - Crochet a cauldron shape and add bubbles rising out of it. You can even include a crocheted witch's hat peeking out of the cauldron.
- Candy Spider: Crochet a giant candy spider with colorful legs and attach it to the bag. It will look like the spider is guarding the candy inside.
The above ideas can be crocheted, created out of felt, or other embellishments.
When making these bags for young children, choose embellishments that are child-safe.
