What Yarn To Use
You can use just about any yarn type and yarn weight to make crochet garland or bunting.
Fine yarn weights like #1 super fine, #2 fine, and #3 light are ideal for this garland pattern because the bats will be small to medium in size.
If you use thicker yarns the bats will be chunkier and heavier looking.
I used #3 light (light worsted, DK, 8ply), and 100% acrylic yarn to make this garland.
You could make bats in multiple colors like you see here on this page or go for a monotone look and use one color only.
Crochet Stitches
You will need to know a few basic crochet stitches like chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, treble crochet and slip stitch to make this pattern.
Crochet Picot Stitch
The easy crochet project uses a picot stitch as a decorative feature. If you do not know how to make this read our blog post on how to crochet picot stitch to learn more.

Pattern Notes
US Crochet Terms

- Make the garland to any size by crocheting multiple bats.
- The garland has the bats spaced 15 chains apart, for more space between stars increases the number of chain stitches.
Pattern Instructions
Crochet Bats
Make your desired number of crochet bats to suit the length of the garland you wish to make. Make them in different colors, or you can make them in one.
This crochet bat garland is based on my crochet bat applique pattern and I have included the instructions for this in the printable pattern below.
If you need help following the pattern go to our step-by-step instructions, on our crochet bat applique page.
Finishing
To make the garland, start with chain 45 (or your desired length) to form the start of the garland string.
Then double crochet into the tip of one bat wing to join it to the chain, then chain 15.
Next, double crochet into the wing tip of the next Halloween bat and chain 15.
Repeat the process of making 15 chains and double crocheting into the bat wings until you have reached your desired length, ending with a chain of 45 (or your desired number) for the garland end.
