Easy Crochet Dishcloth Pattern

This easy crochet dishcloth pattern using lemon peel stitch is perfect for beginners and a great way to practice stitches and color changes.

What You Will Need

Yarn

  • DK (lightweight, 8ply) 100% cotton yarn, 1.7 ounces (50 grams), and 125 yards (115 meters) per skein.
  • Color A - Dark Blue - 1 skein
  • Color B - Green - 1 skein
  • Color C - Light Blue - 1 skein

Hook

  • Hook size 7, (4.5 mm) or size to obtain a gauge.

Notions

  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

  • 15 stitches (lemon peel pattern) and 15 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).

Finished Size

  • The dishcloths are approximately 9 x9 inches (23 x 23 cm).

Pattern Notes

  • The length and width of the pattern can be increased or decreased by reducing or increasing the number of rows and having an odd number of foundation chain stitches.
  • The quantity of yarn used in this pattern is enough to make a set of three simple dishcloths. However, you will need to alternate the color order for each dishcloth.
  • Dishcloth 1 = Color A, Color B, Color C
  • Dishcloth 2 = Color B, Color C, Color A
  • Dishcloth 3 = Color C, Color A, Color B

Instructions

  • Foundation - (Color A) Create a foundation chain of 35 stitches. 
  • Row 1 - Sc in the 2nd ch from hk, dc in the next ch. *Sc in the next ch, dc in the next ch, rpt from * across ending with a dc, turn. = 34 sts
  • Row 2 - Ch 1 (not counted as a st). Sc in the 1st st, dc in the next st. *Sc in the next st, dc in the next st, rpt from * across ending with a dc, turn. = 34 sts
  • Rows 3 - 5 - Same as row 2.
  • Row 6 - 8 - (Color B). Ch1 (not counted as a stitch). Sc in each st to end. = 34 sc
  • Rows 9 - 33 - (Color C). Same as row 2.
  • Row 34 - Same as row 2, cut yarn and fasten off.
  • Finish - Use a yarn needle to weave in loose ends.
