What You Will Need

Yarn

  • 4 - medium (worsted, Afgan, Aran, 10 ply) weight yarn, about 273 yards (250 meters) any color

Hook

  • 8 mm (L-11) crochet hook or size to obtain a gauge.

Notions

  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

  • 10 half double crochets and 9 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) using a 8 mm hook.

Finished Size

  • About 64 inches (1.62 meters) in circumference and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide.

Stitches and Abbreviations Used (US Terms)

  • chain = ch
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • hdc-blo - half double crochet back of the loop
  • hk - hook
  • st - stitch

Instructions

  • Foundation - Chain 150
  • Row 1 - Hdc in 2nd ch from hk, hdc in each st across, turn. 148 hdc
  • Row 2 - Ch1, hdc-blo in 1st st, hdc-blo in each st across, turn. 148 hdc
  • Rows 3 - 13 - repeat row 2.
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew the ends together.
  • Finish - Use a darning needle, thread the tail yarn through, and join the two short ends together, lining up the rows.
    Note: when joining the scarf ends make sure that the scarf lays as one flat piece and is not twisted.
