What You Will Need

Yarn

  • #3 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) 100% cotton or cotton blend yarn with about 15 wraps per inch
  • Color A, yellow - 7.1 yards (6.5 meters)
  • Color B, dusty pink - 36 yards (33 meters)
  • Color C, pale pink - 25.1 yards (23 meters)

Hook

  • 3.5mm hook or hook size to obtain the correct gauge

Notions

  • Stitch marker - optional

  • Needle for sewing on a button

  • 0.59 inches (15mm) button

Gauge

  • Gauge - 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) = 18 single crochet stitches X 12 rows, using a 3.5mm hk, #3 light yarn with about 15 wraps per inch in the gauge swatch pattern below

Finished Size

  • The finished size of the crochet phone pouch is about 6.5 inches ( 16.5cm) wide and 4.5 inches (11.5cm) tall. Suitable for phones up to 6 inches (15.5cm) by 3 inches (7.5cm) in size.

  • Gauge Swatch
  • Gauge - 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) = 18 single crochet stitches X 12 rows, using a 3.5mm hk, #3 light yarn with about 15 wraps per inch in the gauge swatch pattern below.
  • Foundation – ch31
  • Round 1 - 1 single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook, 1 single crochet in each stitch to the end, turn. [30 single crochet]
  • Rnd 2 – ch3 (counts as 1dc), * sk 2-sts, 3dc in next, rpt from * 9 times, sk 2-sts, 2dc in last st, turn. [30dc]
  • Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until you have made about 20 rows.
  • PATTERN INSTUCTIONS
  • Foundation, color A – ch31
  • Rnd 1 – 3sc in 2nd ch from hk, 1sc in next 27-sts, 3sc in last st, rotate piece to work down the other side of the foundation chain, 1sc in next 27-sts, sl st into 1st sc to join. [60sc]
  • Rnd 2 – ch3 (counts as 1dc), 2dc in same sp as ch-3, * sk 2-sts, 3dc in next, rpt from * 19 times, sl st into top of ch-3 to join. [60dc]
  • Rnd 3 – ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in same sp a ch-1, 1sc in each st around, sl st into 1st sc to join. [60sc]
  • Rnd 4, col B – sl st into next st, ch3 (counts as 1dc), 2dc in same sp as ch-3, *sk 2-sts, 3dc in next st, rpt from * 19 times, sl st into top of ch-3 to join. [60dc]

  • Rnd 18 – sames as rnd 3.
  • Rnd 19 – ch1 (not a st), make 60 RSC, cut yarn, fasten off and weave in end.

Strap

  • Options - you can either make a wrist strap or a crossbody strap for this pouch:
  • Wrist strap, color C – ch50, 1sc in 2nd ch from hk, 1sc in next st, 1sc in the next 48-sts, rotate the piece to work on the other side of the ch, sl st in each st to the end, cut yarn, leave a long tail for sewing and fasten off.
  • Crossbody strap, color C – start with a long yarn tail (use this for sewing later), crochet as many chains as needed to get your desired length, then 1sc in 2nd ch from hk, 1sc in each st to the end, rotate the piece to work on the other side of the ch, sl st in each st to the end, cut yarn, leave a long tail for sewing and fasten off.

Finish

  • Lay the purse flat so that the buttonhole is facing up, position the button on the inside back of the purse, and sew it into place.
  • Wrist strap - Fold the strap in half and sew the two ends together using the end tail yarn, then sew the strap to the outside of one side of the bag, fasten it off, and weave in the ends.
  • Crossbody strap – sew each end of the strap to the inside sides of the bag.
