What You Will Need

Yarn

  • #3 Light (light worsted, DK, 8ply) acrylic yarn.
  • Color of choice, about 82 yards (75 meters) 

Hook

  • 4mm (G-6) or a crochet hook size to obtain the correct gauge.

  • The gauge is not that important for the pattern.

Finished Size

  • The finished size of this bag is about 5.5 inches (14cm) high, and 3 inches (7.6 cm) at the base.

Instructions

  • Foundation - MR or, ch4, sl st in 1st ch to join and form a ring.
  • Round 1 - Ch2 (counts as dc), make 11 dc in ring, sl st in top of ch-2 to join. [12dc] 
  • Round 2 - Ch2 (counts as dc), 1dc in same sp as ch-2, then make 2dc in the next 11 sts, sl st in top of ch-2 to join. [24dc] 
  • Round 3 - Ch2 (counts as dc), 1dc in same sp as ch-2, 1dc in next st, * (2dc) in next st, 1dc in next, rpt from * 10 more times, sl st in top of ch-2 to join. [36dc]
  • Round 4 -  Ch1 (not counted as a st), 2sc in same sp as ch-1, 1sc in each of the next 2-sts, * (2sc) in next st, 1sc in each of the next 2-sts, rpt from * 10 more times, sl st in top of ch-2 to join. [48dc]
  • Round 5 - Ch2 (counts as dc), then 1dcBL of each st, sl st in top of ch-2 to join. [48dc]
  • Round 6 - Ch3 (counts as dc and ch1), 1 dc in same sp as ch-1, sk 1-st, *(1dc, ch1, 1dc) in next st, sk 1-st, rpt from * 22 more times, sl st in ch-2 to join. [48dc]

  • Rounds 8 - 14 - same as round 7
  • Rounds 15 - 17 - Ch2 (counts as dc), 1dc in each dc of prev rnd, sl st into ch-2 to join. [48dc]
  • Round 18 - 1 sc in each of the next 2 sps, (5dc) in next sp, * 1sc in each of the next 2sps, (5dc) in the next sp, rpt from * 15 more times, sl st into 1st sc to join, ch1, cut yarn, fasten off. Weave in the tail ends.
  • Bag Tie - Crochet chain 110, cut yarn, and fasten off.
    Thread one yarn tail end through a yarn needle and weave the chain through row 16 (the 2nd row of double crochet stitches).
    Tie a double knot to form a large knot at each end, and trim off the excess yarn.
    Optional - Before knotting the ends of the bag tie, slide a bead on each end for a decorative finish.
