Stitches Used
For this crochet Christmas coaster pattern you will need to know how to make a magic ring, chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, and slip stitch.
Crochet Picot Stitch
This easy crochet project uses a picot stitch as a decorative feature. If you do not know how to make this read our blog post on how to crochet picot stitch to learn more.
Yarn and Hook Information
We used a variegated #4 medium worsted weight yarn with approximately 11 wraps per inch (WPI).
Although a 5-5.5mm hook is typically recommended for this yarn weight, we found that using a 4mm hook provided a better-finished look for the Christmas tree coasters.
When choosing yarn for this project, aim for #4 medium worsted weight yarn, which generally falls between 9-12 WPI.
Due to the shape of these coasters, using lighter-weight yarn may result in smaller coasters that might be too small for some cups.
What You Will Need
Yarn
#4 medium (worsted, Afgan, Aran, 10py) yarn with 11 WPI (wraps per inch):
- Color A, (green) tree coaster - 19.7 yards (18 meters)

- Color C, (yellow) star - 1.09 yards (1 meter)
Crochet hook
- 4mm hook
Notions
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Finished Size & Gauge

Finished Size
These coasters measure about 5.5 inches (14cm) wide and about 6 inches (16cm) in length from the top of the star to the base of the tree trunk.
Gauge
Use the finished size of the crocheted tree (without the star and trunk) for the gauge. Width at the base = 5.5 inches (14cm), length = 5 inches (12cm)
