A Quick and Easy Crochet Basket Project
This crochet trinket dish is worked in just 8 simple rounds, making it a fast project that most crocheters can finish in about 45 minutes.
The pattern uses only two main stitches:
- Half double crochet (hdc)
- Chain stitch (ch)
Because the stitches are simple and repetitive, like this crochet heart trinket box, the pattern is easy to follow and perfect for intermediate beginners or confident beginners.
Yarn and Hook Information
We used #3 light (DK, light worsted, 8ply) 100% acyclic yarn with about 12 WPI* for this project and the recommended 4mm hook.
A Decorative Crochet Ring Dish
The finished piece is a small crochet ring dish with a decorative tulip flower edge. The bowl shape is perfect for holding small everyday items such as:
- Rings
- Earrings
- Small jewelry pieces
- Loose change
- Small trinkets
It's especially useful to keep near the sink so you have a safe place to put your rings while washing dishes or cleaning.
Beautiful Tulip Flower Edge
The top edge of this crochet trinket box features a delicate ring of small tulip flowers.
To create these flowers, we modified the popcorn stitch slightly. Instead of using traditional double crochet stitches, we used half double crochet stitches, so the flowers stay small and balanced with the size of the dish.
We also increased the number of stitches in the flower cluster from 5 to 7 stitches, which creates a fuller tulip shape.
Another special detail is that the flowers are worked without chain stitches between them. This helps create a gentle inward curve along the edge of the basket, giving the sides of dish a slight round look.
A Perfect Scrap Yarn Project
This small crochet basket uses only a small amount of yarn, making it perfect for using up leftover yarn from other projects.
Try making several in different colors for:
- Spring décor
- Matching gift sets
- Craft fair items
Because it works up quickly, it's also a great project when you want something small and quick to make.
A Thoughtful Gift
This tulip crochet dish makes a lovely quick and easy crochet gift idea for many occasions, including:
- Valentine's Day
- Mother's Day
- Birthdays
- Thank-you gifts
Pair it with a piece of jewelry or small keepsake to create a a unique gift.
