Yarn and Hook Information
We used 100% acrylic #3 light worsted weight yarn with 12 WPI (wraps per inch) to make this mini Christmas tree.
The recommended hook for this yarn was 5.5mm (I/9) we opted to use a 3.5mm (E/4) hook for a tighter stitch.
Feel free to use any yarn weight and type you like, and use suitable hook sizes to create a nice tight stitch to prevent the stuffing from showing through when filled

Finished Size

The finished size of this Christmas tree ornament is about 8 inches (20cm) from the tip of the star to the base of the tree trunk and 4 inches (10 cm) wide at the widest part of the tree. The hanging loop is about 3 inches (8 cm) long.
Gauge
The gauge for this pattern is not too important. However, use a hook size that will give you tight and compact stitches to prevent the stuffing from showing through.

Row One
Row 1, color C - Make 1 single crochet into the 2nd chain from the hook, then make 1 single crochet in each of the next 6 stitches, turn. [7 single crochet in this round]

Row 1, col C - 1sc in 2nd ch from hk, 1sc in next 6-sts, turn. [7sc]
Rows Two to Six
Rows 2-6 - Chain 1 (this is not counted as a stitch), make 1 single crochet into each stitch to the end, and turn. [7 single crochet in each round]
Abbreviated Version
Rows 2 - 6 - ch1 (not counted as a st), 1sc in each st to end, turn. [7sc in each rnd]
Row Seven
Row 7 - 1 single crochet into each stit to the end. [7 single crochet in this round]
Abbreviated version
Row 7 - 1sc in each st to end, do not turn. [7sc]
Row Eight
Row 8, shape the tree trunk - Fold the piece in half so that the row ends meet. Chain 1 and close the long open side (the row edge) with 7 single crochet stitches, rotate the work and make 4 single crochet down the short end, rotate and make 7 single crochet into the long folded side, chain 1, cut yarn, and fasten off. Tuck the yarn tails inside the trunk trunk.

Star (make 2)

Round One
Round 1, color B - Make 10 single crochets into a magic ring, and pull the yarn tail tight to close the circle. slip stitch into the 1 single crochet to join. [10 single crochet in is round]
Abbreviated version
Rnd 1, col B - 10sc into MR, pull yarn tail to close circle, sl st into the 1sc to join. [10sc]
Round Two
Round 2 - * Chain 5, make 1 single crochet into the 3rd chain from the hook, then make 1 half double crochet into the next stitch, then make 1 double crochet into the next stitch, skip the next single crochet stitch in round 1 and slip stitch into the next, repeat from * 4 more times, then slip stitch into the base of the first chain 5 to join, cut yarn fasten off and weave in ends. [5 star points made]
Abbreviated version

Repeat rounds 1-2 to make a second, however on the second star piece, cut the yarn tail leaving it long enough to sew around the star, be sure to weave in the starting yarn tail to secure the magic ring.
Sew star onto the tree

- Sandwich the tree between the two stars, lining up the hanging loop with a star point. Thread the yarn tail onto a needle and sew the star to the top of the tree, fasten it off, and weave in the end.
