#3 light (light worsted, DK, 8ply) yarn with about 12 wraps per inch (WPI) - we used 100 % acrylic

  • Color A (toe, heel, cuff) - 9.3 yards (8.5 meters)
  • Color B (stocking) - 18 yards (16.5 meters)

  • 4mm

The stocking is about 3 inches (7cm) wide by 5 inches (12.5cm) tall at the widest points (does not include the hanging loop).

Foundation, col A, 4mm hk - chain 3, slip stitch into the 1st stitch to join and make ring.

Row Five

Row 5 - Make 2 half double crochets in the 1st stitch, then make 1 half double crochet in the next 5 stitches, and 2 half double crochet in the next stitch, turn. [9 half double crochet in this row]

Row 5 - 2hdc in 1st st, 1hdc in next 5-sts, 2hdc in next, cut yarn, leave a tail for sewing, and fasten off. [9hdc]

Finish Heel

With right side facing you, fold the heel section down - so that the top of rnd 5 lines up with the 1st row. Whip stitch both sides together, then turn right side out so that the white section looks like a heel.

Round Eight

Round 8 - Insert the hook back into the marked stitch, then make a front post half double crochet around the 1st stitch, 1 half double crochet in the next stitch, front post half double crochet around the next, 1 half double crochet in the next, front post half double crochet around the next stitch, you should now be where color A starts.

Continue alternating between half double crochet and front post half double crochet stitches along the edge of the heel for a total of 11 stitches until you get back to the color B round.

Make a front post half double crochet around the next half double crochet stitch in the color B round, then a half double crochet into the next stitch, a front post half double crochet around the next, a half double crochet in the next, then slip stitch into the 1st stitch to join. [20 stitches in this round]

Rnd 8 - Insert hk back into the marked st, FPdc around 1st st, 1hdc in next st, FPhdc around next, 1hdc in next st, FPhdc around next st,  you should now be where col A starts, continue alternating between hdc,  FPhdc sts along the edge of the heel for a total of 11-sts until you get back to the col B rnd, FPhdc around next hdc-st in col B rnd, 1hdc into next, FPhdc around next st, 1hdc in next, sl st into 1st st to join. Round 18 - Chain 1 (don't count this as a stitch), 1 single crochet in the same space as the chain 1, then make 1 single crochet in each of the next 9 stitches, change to a 3mm hook and chain 30 (or as many stitches as you need to get the hanging loop length you need), the slip stitch into the 1st chain stitch, change back to the 4mm hook, and make 1 single crochet in each of the next 10 stitches, slip stitch into the 1st stitch, cut yarn, fasten off and weave in the end. [20 single crochet and a chain 30 loop in this round]
