Have some fun with this Halloween eyeball crochet coaster pattern! These coasters are quick to make and need only a little yarn-less than 10 yards (9 meters) of each color.
They are perfect for craft fairs or as gifts for classrooms! You can use #2 fine yarn for this project, and cotton yarn is best because it absorbs well and handles heat.
The finished eyeball coasters are about 4 inches (10 cm) wide.

About This
- This is a quick crochet pattern that is made up of 6 rounds.
- Each coaster can be made in less than 25 minutes.
- This Halloween eyeball coaster pattern is ideal for a beginner.
- This pattern is made up of joined rounds and the yarn color changes are made at the start of each round.
- Unlike other eyeball coasters, this one is embroidery-free, because the "bloodshot" lines around the whites are crocheted in.
Crochet Stitches
For this pattern, you will need to be familiar with how to make a magic ring, chain stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, slip stitch, and double crochet.
You will also need to know how to make a single crochet spike stitch. This is easy to make and you will find instructions for this in our special stitches section below.

Yarn and Hook Information
We used #2 fine (sport, baby, 5-ply) 100% cotton yarn, which has about 16 wraps per inch. The suggested hook size for this yarn is 4mm, but we opted to use a smaller 3mm hook.
We also tried the pattern with #3 light (DK, light worsted, 8-ply) 100% acrylic yarn, which has about 12 wraps per inch. The recommended hook size is 4mm again, but we went with a 3mm hook.
Both yarns work well for this pattern, so use whichever you prefer or experiment with a different fiber blend. The only difference is the final size.
Since the #3 light yarn is slightly thicker than the #2 fine yarn, coasters made with #3 yarn turn out a little larger.
How To Make
This crochet pattern begins with a magic ring and 12 double crochet stitches to create the pupil.
In the next round, single crochet stitches form part of the iris. The third round completes the iris using half double crochet stitches.
Rounds 4 and 5 create the whites of the eye with double crochet stitches. The final 6th round adds a spooky touch with single crochet and spiked single crochet stitches to create bloodshot eyes.
