About This Easy Dishcloth Pattern

  • This simple dishcloth pattern works quickly and looks beautiful in any color and features a simple single crochet band in the dishcloth design.
  • These can be made in one color or three matching colors for a coordinating set of three.
  • Make these for yourself or give them as gifts at Christmas, housewarming parties, or bridal showers.
  • For more dishcloth patterns see our page on easy crochet dishcloth patterns.
  • You can also use this pattern for crochet washcloths.
  • This is a free pattern and you will find a printable pattern card at the end of this post.

I previously introduced the lemon peel crochet stitch, a simple and easy-to-learn technique.

Now, I have this easy crochet dishcloth pattern using the lemon peel stitch for you to practice this stitch.

Similar to the moss stitch pattern I shared earlier, the lemon stitch creates a lovely dishcloth.

What Is Crochet Lemon Peel Stitch

Lemon peel stitch is an easy stitch to crochet that creates a beautiful textured fabric.

The stitch gets its name because it resembles the texture of bumpy lemon peel.

The lemon peel stitch is made by using a combination of single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc) stitches which are alternated across the row and each stitch.

If you have never crocheted the lemon peel stitch, you might like to check out my step-by-step crochet lemon peel stitch tutorial for detailed instructions.

It is a great little stitch for you to learn because it is not only good for making dishcloths, washcloths, and kitchen hand towels, but it is also good for making scarves, jumpers, baby wear, and blankets.

Adding A Border

This dishcloth looks fine without a border because the edges are nice and even, but if you prefer, add a border of single crochet stitches around the edges.

Yarn Used For These Dishcloths

I used 100% cotton DK (Double Knit) yarn, also referred to as light worsted or 8-ply, but you could also use a worsted weight cotton (10-ply).

Each skein weighed 1.7 ounces (50 grams) and contained 125 yards (115 meters) of yarn.

These dishcloths were made using three different colors, and there is enough yarn in each skein to make a coordinating set of three.

Step By Step Tutorial

Listed below are instructions for how to make this easy crochet dishcloth pattern and at the end of the page you will find a free printable instruction page.

Skill Level

What You Will Need

Yarn

DK (lightweight, 8ply) 100% cotton yarn, 1.7 ounces (50 grams), and 125 yards (115 meters) per skein.

  • Color A - light blue - 1 skein
  • Color B - dark blue - 1 skein
  • Color C - green - 1 skein

Hook

  • 4.5mm (7) or a crochet hook size to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions

  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Finished Size

An easy crochet dishcloth.

The dishcloths are approximately 9 x 9 inches (23 x 23 cm).

I crocheted my dishcloth with a foundation chain of 35 and 34 rows, but you can change the size of your dishcloth by using an odd number of chains and any number of rows.

If you make your dishcloth larger, you may need additional yarn.

Gauge

15 stitches (lemon peel pattern) and 15 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm).

Check your gauge: Use any hook size to obtain the correct gauge.

Stitches Used In This Pattern - US Terms

Pattern Notes

  • The length and width of the pattern can be increased or decreased by reducing or increasing the number of rows and having an odd number of foundation chain stitches.

The quantity of yarn used in this pattern is enough to make a set of three simple dishcloths. However, you will need to alternate the color order for each dishcloth.

  • Dishcloth 1 = Color A, Color B, Color C
  • Dishcloth 2 = Color B, Color C, Color A
  • Dishcloth 3 = Color C, Color A, Color B
