These 4-inch (10.5cm) coasters add a bit of summer sweetness to your table, making them a happy and useful addition for picnics, barbecues, and sunny celebrations.

Plus, they make a great housewarming, Christmas, or Thank-you gift for friends and family!

About This Watermelon Crochet Coaster

  • We opted for #3 light acrylic yarn (also known as light worsted, DK, or 8ply) with a thickness of 12 WPI (wraps per inch). Alternatively, you can use 100% cotton or a cotton blend with a similar weight.
  • While the recommended hook size for our yarn was 4mm (G/6), we chose a slightly smaller 3mm (D/3) for a tighter stitch.
  • They make a great housewarming gift, Christmas, Valentines day, or Thank-you gift for friends and family.
  • These adorable crochet watermelon coasters are not only charming but also make for a quick and delightful crafting project, perfect for selling at markets.

What Type Of Yarn Is Best For Crochet Coaster?

Choosing cotton or a cotton blend for crocheting coasters is great because cotton is good at soaking up moisture, making your coasters last longer.

Cotton feels soft and stays strong. It will not trap heat, so it is safe for hot cups.

But if you want more color choices and a lower cost, you can also use acrylic yarn.

Just know that acrylic may not soak up moisture as well as cotton. So, it is a bit of a trade-off between practicality and budget.

Depending on what you want, either cotton or acrylic can work for making your crochet coasters.

Crochet Stitches

You will need to know some basic crochet stitches like chain stitch, single crochet, and slip stitch to make these watermelon coasters.

Reverse Single Crochet (RSC)

In this pattern, you will be using a technique called 'reverse single crochet,' it adds a lovely decorative edge to your items.

If you are not familiar with it, no worries! Head over to our post on how to make a reverse single crochet to get the hang of it.

It is simple and adds a fun twist to your crochet projects!
