What You Will Need

Yarn

We crocheted two strands of #4 worsted weight yarn together (also known as Afgan, Aran, or 10 ply) each strand being 11 WPI (wraps per inch) in the following colors.

Heart

  • White - total of 138 yards (126 meters) or 69 yards (63 meters) for front and 69 yards (63 meters) for back.
  • Pink - total 138 yards (126 meters) or 69 yards (63 meters) for front and 69 yards (63 meters) for back.

Border - Crochet with two strands of yarn

  • White - total of 37 yards (34 meters) or 18.6 yards (17 meters) per strand.

Crochet Hook

  • 6.5 mm hook

Notions

  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers
  • Yarn needle

Finished Size

A pink and white crochet heart pillow with a dark pink crochet rose.

The finished size of this crochet heart pillow is about 14 inches (35.5 cm) at its widest point, and about 12 inches (30.5 cm) long when made with the yarn and hook size mentioned above.

Gauge

The gauge is not important for this project, but making sure the stitches are tight with little gap between them.

Having tight close stitches prevents the stuffing from peeking through the pillow.

If you notice that the holes between the stitches are too big, consider using a smaller hook size to achieve tighter stitches.

Variations

You now know how to crochet a heart pillow. You can use this simple pattern with other yarn weights and hook sizes to create different-sized heart pillows, for example;

  • Large crochet heart pillows can be made with #6 super bulky yarn or #7 jumbo yarn and appropriate hook size to create tight stitches that won't let the filling escape between the stitches.
  • You can make super cute and dainty-looking small crochet heart pillows with lighter yarn weights, such as #3 light, or #2 fine yarn weights, and a suitable hook size.

So, have fun and experiment with different yarn weights and hook sizes to make the most of the yarn you have on hand.
